Top 10 Tips for Maintaining Healthy Relaxed Hair | Longer Healthier Hair
Healthier Chemically straightened/Relaxed hair Tips
So I know a lot of hair bloggers don't really talk about chemically straightened or relaxed hair. Its all about natural, healthy hair and almost frowned upon to still use these kind of chemicals on your hair.
Others prefer their natural hair and others don't. I believe its a personal choice what we choose to do and how we want to look. Its all about maintaining healthier hair and preventing damage to your hair.
Anyway ladies I know some of you out there still prefer to chemically straighten your hair for different reasons:
Whatever your reason may be I just wanted to share some TIPS that I used to use when I straightened my hair to keep it healthy, prevent breakage and just help it grow!!
So sit back and enjoy my tips.....
The first tip is to try and minimise how often you use the hair relaxer/texturiser in your hair. Try to minimise to every 6-8 weeks if you can and slowly increase the time frame in-between your root touch ups to give your hair some breathing space and a break from the chemicals/damage it causes.
So there you go ladies! Give these tips a go and see how much better your relaxed hair will look and feel plus the breakage and growth will just come naturally and enjoy your healthier longer hair!
I would love to hear how you get on with these tips.
Until next time ladies, stay positive and focussed.

- easier to manage
- you prefer straighter hair
- don't like your natural hair
Whatever your reason may be I just wanted to share some TIPS that I used to use when I straightened my hair to keep it healthy, prevent breakage and just help it grow!!
So sit back and enjoy my tips.....
TIP 1
The first tip is to try and minimise how often you use the hair relaxer/texturiser in your hair. Try to minimise to every 6-8 weeks if you can and slowly increase the time frame in-between your root touch ups to give your hair some breathing space and a break from the chemicals/damage it causes.
TIP 2
The second tip is to try and not apply the relaxer on hair that has already been treated (if you're doing a root touch up that is). Only focus the relaxer on the new hair because if you re-apply it on already treated hair you are weakening those strands further and this is what causes your hair to break.
TIP 3
The third tip is to try and not use the super strength relaxers no matter your hair type. Just use the normal one or even better the children one (just as many chemicals to be honest just slightly weaker and less damaging to your hair).
TIP 4
The fourth tip is you do not need to apply all the product to your hair, just apply what is needed and throw the rest away. Too much product in your hair makes it harder to wash out and in turn causes more damage to your hair strands.
TIP 5
The fifth tip is to try to add something to the conditioner to add some moisture back in your hair and weaken the chemicals in the relaxer. You can use:
- Coconut oil
- Natural conditioner
- Avocado Oil
- Olive Oil
TIP 6
The sixth tip is to try to not leave the relaxer on your hair for longer than it needs to. I know a lot of people whom will wait until they start to feel a burning sensation (don't wait that long please, 20 minutes should be your maximum). This is another factor that's causes your hair to break.
TIP 7
The seventh tip is to make sure that you get all the product out of your hair when you wash it. If you have to do 3 shampoo's do it as you don't want any product remaining in your hair (this is what makes it super dry and gives your hair a hard grassy texture).
TIP 8
The eighth tip is to make sure you do a deep condition directly after washing your hair. You can use any hair mask that will put some nutrients and moisture back into your hair. You can do a protein condition or any deep condition mask (soya milk, avocado, egg, papaya fruit, coconut oil, honey, castor oil etc). Leave in your hair for 30minutes - 1 hour. You can then wash and style as you please. Do this once a month just to maintain your healthy hair ladies.
TIP 9
The ninth tip is about your hair maintenance after you have relaxed it. This is extremely important as your hair maintenance will keep your hair healthy and prevent more damage to it. Please make sure you do not use any heat directly after relaxing (blow drying or hair straighteners). Your hair has just gone through a lot with the relaxer and needs a break from heat for at least week.
TIP 10
The last tip I will share is about dying your hair. Now you need to make sure you do not permanently dye your hair at least 6 weeks prior to relaxing or 6 weeks after relaxing it. You can still dye your hair but you can't use bleach on relaxed hair (you have to decide which one to go with here, can't have both worlds!). Bleach damages and dries out your hair so much, so to add that to your hair that has been relaxed is literally stripping your hair of every nutrient it has so please use hair dye that doesn't have peroxide in it or prevent dying it all together. So there you go ladies! Give these tips a go and see how much better your relaxed hair will look and feel plus the breakage and growth will just come naturally and enjoy your healthier longer hair!
I would love to hear how you get on with these tips.
Until next time ladies, stay positive and focussed.
