Garnier Hair Food Review | Which is better?

Hi guys,

I know its been a hot minute since I posted anything on this blog and honestly life just got in the way, I have honestly done soooo many things this year and ticket off so many boxes it's crazy! I will hopefully look to do a blog post about all the amazing things I have been up to this year...

I have been seeing these Garnier Hair Food products everywhere and I was dying to use them. Now they are available in the UK I decided to do a review on 2 of the products. So without further ado lets crack on...…

Garnier released 4 products they called Hair Food that you can use as 3 in 1 conditioners, so a normal conditioner, a deep conditioner and a leave in conditioner. There is the Aloe Vera one, Papaya one, Coconut one and a Banana one.

I will be reviewing the Aloe Vera and Papaya ones and using them as a leave-in conditioner with nothing else in my hair....yes that's right zero other styling products to truly see how good they work for my curls. (If you know me, you know I love a concoction of products in my hair)...

I started off with 5 day curls that were super dry, in serious need of some TLC and a super dose of moisture (Don't ask why my hair is pink, that's a whole other rant and situation I was furious about).

First things first, shampooed my hair and I put a middle parting to separate my hair in half. I used the Repairing Papaya on the right and this one:
-  repairs split ends
- 98% natural ingredients
- has no silicones

Honestly the smell of the Papaya is quite overbearing for me personally (I am partial to having an over sensitive nose to certain smells) but the consistency is thin and light which I liked.

The second half of my hair I used the Moisturising Aloe Vera on the left and this one:
- gives you shinny hair
- is a vegan formula
- has no silicones/colourants
- is 98% natural ingredients

Now for a curly girl this one immediately sounds like it is better for your hair, has a thicker consistency than the Papaya one and has a much less over bearing smell.

I applied both products to their relevant side, finger detangled and used a detangling brush to further detangling (this honestly has been a life saver in my detangling process! Cuts the time down to 10/15 minutes detangling and I am done). I then scrunched my curls as per my normal routine and used a microfibre towel to further scrunch my hair.

My hair absorbed both products immediately and after scrunching the Papaya product elongated the curls compared to the Aloe Vera one. Fellow curly girls we all know the shrinkage struggle and how frustrating it is that your hair could be 18 inches long but shrinks to about 12 inches.

I then left my hair to airdry....as advised earlier I did not put any other styling products in my hair, just the Garnier masks and I went about my day as per usual.

Both products were light in my hair which allowed it to dry super quickly (I think within a couple of hours) and these are the results.

Now neither side of my curls was as defined as I would have liked but my hair was super soft. The Aloe Vera side (Left) the curls were tighter, less frizzy and on the Papaya side (Right) the curls were slightly less defined, longer and a bit frizzier.

So which one did I prefer? Well I liked that the Papaya one elongated my curls but disliked that it made the curls frizzier and I found the smell quite sickening after 10minutes.

Regarding the Aloe Vera one I liked that there was more definition and less frizz but I disliked that it shrunk my curls.

Ultimately I preferred the Aloe Vera one for me personally it worked better for my curls and smelt much less overbearing than the Papaya one.

Let me know if you've tried them and your thoughts?

Until next time,

Stay safe and don't forget to take some time out for some self care this week.

Love Curly G

  4. Buy Garnier products online to pamper your hair, and you will never get disappointed! After washing and conditioning, its important to protect your hair from heat damage. Apply a heat protectant spray or serum before using any heat-styling tools. When blow-drying your hair, use a lower heat setting and hold the dryer at least six inches away from your hair to avoid damage.
